During Christmas 1943 the British Royal Parachute Regiment soldiers,part of the Allied occupation of Iceland were stationed at Reykjavik, Iceland as part of Operation Fork.This was a British military operation to occupy and deny Iceland to Germany.Denmark had been overrun by Germany a month earlier.
