Pre-war CZAF fighter pilot in Air Regiment 4. With FAF 1939-1940, eventually escaping to Britain. With 310 Sqn 5/42 to 10/43.Became “A” flight CO of 310 Sqn on 1/2/43 succeeding V Cocholin. His first tour was completed in Oct 1943 and second tour with 310 Sqn from Jan 1944 as CO. On 21/5 44 he was shot down by flak near Lisieux France while attacking a train. He crash landed; evaded capture with the aid of the French Resistance returning to Britain on 19/8/1944. Remained with the new CZAF after 1945. Left Czechoslovakia shortly after the Communist coup in 1948 and came to Britain and joined the RAF.
