Wartime Knitting

Just an interest page on the world of knitting during the war years. Many mothers and wives felt powerless to help their kinfolk who were fighting for our homeland during the war years. Knitting a pullover, gloves or hat to keep someone warm was a lovely act of kindness and every stitch and row must have been filled with love and best wishes.

My father was a Rear Air Gunner on Lancaster Bombers (Tail End Charlie) with 50 Sqn and 44 Rhodesia Sqn during WW2 and was very grateful for his finger less gloves knitted especially for him.
